  • Biographical Statement

    Roxey Maria Stowell was born in Utah in 1889 to Brigham Stowell and Rhoda Maria Bybee. Roxey Maria married Erastus Snow Romney on August 31, 1910 and had 5 children. Her husband was president of Dixie Normal College from 1918 until his death in 1920. She served as Washington County Librarian in St. George, Utah from 1923 to 1951 and as state president of the Utah Library Association from 1938 to 1958. Her other service to the community included working with the Red Cross and serving as Washington County chairman from 1943 to 1953; serving as a member of the St. George City Commission in 1957; serving as president of the Utah Municipal League Auxillary for 1940-1941; serving as a member of the University of Utah Board of Regents from 1948 to 1952; and serving as Democractic national committee woman for twelve years. She passed away on December 8, 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah.,1823559&hl=en
