Evan Spencer Pickett was born on May 14, 1920 in St. George, Utah to Ruthe Morris Pickett and Ellis J. Pickett. Pickett attended local schools and Dixie College before beginning his military career in World War II followed by the Korean Conflict and a peacetime assignment in the Middle East. During the World War II Italian Campaign, at the age of 23, he became the youngest major in the U.S. Army. Prio to departing for Europe, he married Fawn Schmutz of New Harmony. In 1961, Evan retired from active duty and began a second career in engineering with the county of Santa Barbara, California. In 1977 Evan and Fawn Pickett returned to the St. George area. He died of cancer on June 26, 1996.
